We are hyping ourselves up for another big year of Pasefika creative arts on the stage! As we have done in previous years, it’s time to get the band back together for another round of MOOMBA and PASIFIX performances.

The Moomba Parade has been a major feature in PICAA’s timetable for the past 5 years – every January we call-out to our Pasefika communities, inviting whoever wants to represent and express their Island culture at the parade, to join us. We spend a few weeks working with a creative team – comprising various tutors and leaders from our local performance groups, then February is our rehearsal month with community members. March is event day and it’s a beautiful sight to see our communities come together wearing the brightest of the brightest Island colours . Moomba Parade is a wonderful display of multicultural Victoria and it’s definitely a highlight for our PICAA team and all our community collaborators.

Similarly, the PASIFIX event is an epic showcase of traditional and contemporary Pasefika artists and bands on stage at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. Event hosts Gaba Musik and Arts Centre Melbourne rolled out the inaugural event in 2020 – of which PICAA was honoured to take part in, with Pasefika Vitoria Choir opening the event with Pasefika choral song – for this event, we invited our younger PICAA family members (ages 8 to 18 years old) to join us on stage. PASIFIX is THE Pasefika music event of Australia, an exciting display that can cater to a variety of Pasefika music tastes. In 2020, we jammed with Gaba Musik, Ngaiire, Biggs685, HP-Onit, Stndrd and this year we are gearing up to share the stage with another BOSS line-up!
