‘ACTING FOR YOUTH’ PROGRAMME (THEATRE)

Aimed towards Pasefika youth in Melbourne, ACTING FOR YOUTH  is an 8-week introductory programme that develops performing arts techniques. Students that have taken part in this programme are mentored as they learn acting techniques, with a chance to showcase these at the conclusion of their course.   Facilitated by actor/director/playwright Asalemo Tofete, ACTING FOR YOUTH has attracted young performers to our PICAA theatre projects, which are further opportunities for them to develop and create their own original ideas and works.

Graduates of this programme have gone on to participate in exciting events that include the Immigration Museum’s ‘Aotearoa Fest’ (2016) by performing a series of vignettes created by the students themselves.  Later that same year, students joined the case of visiting NZ production ‘Fatu na Toto’ (T Lualua/A Faiaoga), a PICAA collaboration with NZ dance company LeMoana; and in 2017 our students participated in the musical ‘ReHavaiki’ (A Tofete/R Seumanutafa).
