Directed by Gold-medal winning lead singer Lusa Washburn, THE MELBOURNE PASEFIKA MEN’S CHOIR was formed in July 2016 with the sole purpose of providing a vocal group where men of Pacific Island heritage could bond and fellowship through their participation of music. The call-out for singers aged 18 and over was made via an event page hosted by PICAA INC., looking for male singers who were interested in learning a set piece of music for an international music video contest. Ten singers answered our call, and thus THE MELBOURNE PASEFIKA MEN’S CHOIR was born.
For seven weeks the men prepared their entry piece, this involved learning for the first time vocal techniques needed to perform European choral music. Many of these singers had never performed this type of music genre and we commend them for their willingness to explore this type of music. Participating in the WAC2016 event has been an exciting opportunity for all singers involved and we thank the organisers of the event for such a prestigious opportunity.
Members of 2016 were: Lusa Washburn (Director), Patrick Faaaifili (Manager), Lloyd Samau, Aviti Etuale, Kali Aho, Moeaki Finau, Christian Gilbert, Asalemo Tofete, Steve Tafea, Brandon Tuiono, Daniel Tua, Daniel Afolau.
