In 2026 and beyond, PICAA is proud to be the auspice organisation of community initiative: PASEFIKA NAVIGATORS.
The Pasefika Navigators is a youth leadership and advocacy training program that provides a platform for participants to further develop the skills needed to lead and advocate for the community. The program was initiated by community leader Dr. Rita Seumanutafa-Palala after calls from community to hear more from our young people.
In 2020, seven young people answered the call and participated in online talanoa (discussions) to keep their peers engaged during the Melbourne lockdowns followed by design and planning sessions to shape the Pasefika Navigators program to help them achieve their advocacy goals.

The program is for those Pasefika young people who are passionate about showcasing community strengths, and lending their voices to important issues affecting young people today in Victoria. Mentorship and training is provided throughout the year, with opportunities for the Navigators to showcase their skills in various community projects. Meet the Pasefika Navigators on Instagram.
Applications for our Pasefika Navigators 2026 program will open soon.

Projects
TALANOA TALAVOU: In partnership with VicHealth, we championed Mental Health Literacy for Pasefika Youth in 2022, utilising young voices and leadership in raising awareness of important mental health issues.
TALANOA WITH INSPIRING ROLE MODELS: We hosted a number of speakers from community and abroad, who were able to share with us their professional expertise and their community, family and career journeys. Guest speakers included Talei Richards, Fijian (Director of Community Development, Scanlon Foundation), Dr. Keith Camacho, Chamorro (Professor, UCLA) and Dr. Juliann Anesi, Samoan (Associate Professor, UCLA).
