A night of Community singing in Brimbank

Last Thursday Pasefika Vitoria Choir (PVC) enjoyed an evening of shared song and food with our friends from Brimbank Multicultural Community Choir (BMCC) led by Veronica Gauci and Suavis Community Choir led by Merryn Steel. Hosted by Suavis, the event was held at the Brimbank Salvation Army Church with each choir preparing two sets each, and shared one song for everyone to learn.

We shared “Minoi minoi” a Samoan folk song arranged by NZ composer Christopher Marshall which – in hindsight – may not have been the easiest rendition to share with non-Pacific choirs however our friends at Suavis and BMCC gave it a good shot (thank you friends!).

The event was an enjoyable community concert experience for PVC and it was nice to jam and hang out with fellow choir and music lovers.

For PVC, singing is engaging, healing and empowering therefore we recommend anyone in community who loves to sing or wants to be part of a choir to join their local choir – Pacific or non-Pacific. A quick google will show you who is operating near you. For a start – our three choirs are based out in the western suburbs, specifically in the Brimbank municipality.

Of course if you are keen to join Pasefika Vitoria Choir then send us a message and we’ll let you know when our next membership intake is (coming up soon!).

We want to thank Capt. Chad Cole, Merryn Steel and the Brimbank Salvation Army Church for hosting us. We give kudos to our choir friends Suavis and BMCC for staying strong to community music and engagement out in the west and we thank our families and friends who came out to enjoy music with us.

Stay warm this winter and keep singing everyone.
