Some of you may be new to PICAA or are not up-to-date with our social media haps. Fear not, here are the answers to our most Frequently Asked Questions to bring you up to speed:
What is PICAA all about?
Good question! We formed in 2016 with the main purpose of creating a platform where Pasefika creative arts and artists could thrive in Australia. We create and produce our own programs and events that put Pasefika creatives on (and behind) the stage, and we try and include as many of our Pasefika community members as possible. You can read about all of our programs here.
Who runs PICAA?
PICAA is managed by 5 Creative Associates who each have their own Pasefika creative expertise: Rita Seumanutafa-Palala, Asalemo Tofete, Steve Tafea, Delsa Evo Tuitea and Gina Tafea. You can read their bios here.
Are your programs and events for Pasefika people only?
The majority of our programs are for Pasefika community members. For example, anyone can attend and be part of our Pasefika Vitoria Choir music program, or our community outreach program Spirit of Pasefika. These programs are designed to promote Pasefika creative arts so if you’re wanting to attend or be regular members of these programs, you must be okay with the creative content being all about Pasefika peoples and cultures. On the other end, our Tuiga Program (Cultural Arts) is specifically targeted to the Samoan community – in line with cultural protocol.
Do I have to be a good singer to join your choir?
Fun fact – we have a resident lip syncer (we won’t tell you who, but her name starts with ‘G’ lol). We hope that answers your question. PS – You don’t need to be a great singer, we have plenty of them in our choir but you must have a willingness to learn and perform Pasefika song and dance.
How do I become a member of PICAA?
Easy! You fill out our contact form and let us know what you want to do – sign up for our next creative project, volunteer as backstage crew at our theatre festival next year, join our choir etc – and we’ll go from there. Also, throughout the year we post up community call-outs when it’s time to register for a PICAA program or event, so if you’re following our social media accounts (FB, IG, TikTok, Linkedin) you’ll be able to see our posts. (Note to yourself: Follow @picaainc on socials). Everyone who takes part in PICAA programs and events becomes part of the ‘PICAA Family’.
Do you have any questions of your own? If so, holla.
Alofas from Team PICAA xx
